Dr. Christopher Chapman
Lead researcher (Lecturer in Bioengineering)
Chris is the lead researcher in the CARClab. He has significant experience in the development and deployment of bioelectronic devices.
He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from University of California - Davis (2017) and bachelors degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering from North Carolina State University (2012).

Luke Philbrooks
Post-doctoral Research Associate
Luke Philbrooks is a Postdoctoral Researcher working on the ARIA-funded project, Oligodendronics: Engineering biology for scalable neural interfaces. He is completing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, and holds an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Queen Mary University of London (2019) and a BSc in Medical Physiology from the University of Nottingham (2015)

Alexandra Collisson
Research Assistant
Alexandra is currently focused on public and patient interaction (PPI) to understand glioma patient interest in implanted bioelectronics for cancer monitoring and treatment.
She holds an MSc in Psychology from Queen Mary University of London (2024) and a bachelors degree from St. George’s in Biomedical Sciences (2023)

Ester Clarisse Do Couto Lopes
PhD student
Ester started her PhD in the CARClab in October 2024 on the development of materials and implanted devices for cancer bioelectronics.
She holds an MEng in Biomedical engineering from Imperial College London (2021).

Joshua Paul Ali Daoud
PhD student
Joshua started his PhD in the CARClab in January 2025 on the development of in vitro cancer recurrence models.
Joshua holds an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Queen Mary University of London (2024) and a bachelors degree from St. George’s in Biomedical Science (2023).

Hasitha Senevirathne
PhD student
Hasitha started his PhD in the CARClab in September 2025 on the development of sensor functionalised organ-on-chip platforms.
Hasitha holds an MEng in Biomedical Engineering from University of Glasgow (2024).

PhD student
Joshua started his PhD in the Green Group at Imperial College London in 2022. He is now also affiliated with the CARClab as a co-supervised PhD student.

Sheena is currently undertaking research in the CARClab as part of the Queen Mary Centre for Undergraduate Research on the topic of creating brain tissue phantoms to simulate tissue properties changes in brain cancer.
